When Should I Use Eligibility Logic?
Use eligibility logic when you need to:
Show an eligibility pop-up if an applicant provides information that disqualifies them.
Decide whether applicants should be completely stopped or allowed to move forward after an ineligible answer.
Set up eligibility checks inside a dedicated Eligibility Section within your form.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Open your program’s FORM and go into the FORM Editor.
Turn on Edit Mode (Toggle) so you can make changes.
Create or select the custom section you want to use for screening. (Only Process Admin members can mark a custom form section as an Eligibility Section.)
Click the Section Title, then click the icon that appears on the right-hand side to edit the section settings.
Set the Selection Title (this is the name you want to display in the form).
Choose the Section Group to control where the section is visible (for example, Application for applicants and internal users, or Review for internal use only).
Turn on Eligibility Section to enable eligibility behavior and the eligibility pop-up.
Set the Toggle behavior to choose whether an applicant is completely stopped or allowed to move forward without meeting eligibility criteria.
Enter an Eligibility Title (the title applicants see when they answer with an ineligible response).
Enter an Eligibility Message (the message shown under the title).
Add the custom fields you want to use for screening inside the eligibility section. (Within eligibility sections, custom fields can be configured with expected values that determine eligibility.)
Use Preview (Toggle) to view and test form changes.
Click Save Changes to save updates without making them visible to applicants.
Click Publish (Blue button) to apply saved updates and make them live on the form.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Forgetting to Publish after updates: Save Changes does not make updates visible to applicants, but Publish does.
Activating a program before the form is ready: launching with a FORM that is not complete can expose sections and fields that are not configured.
Expecting reports to “rename” automatically after changing Selection Title: the name pulled into reports follows a naming convention that stays the same even if the Selection Title changes.
Assuming the Section ID will update if you rename the section: Section ID auto-populates and does not update when the Section Title changes.
Best Practices for FORWARD Direct Users
Use Preview (Toggle) to test eligibility behavior before you publish changes.
Before activating a program, confirm the FORM is complete and published.
If you need an Eligibility Section, make sure a Process Admin member is available to mark the section correctly.
FAQ
What happens when an applicant gives an ineligible answer?
An eligibility pop-up message is shown to inform them they are not eligible to proceed. Whether they are stopped or allowed to continue depends on the Eligibility Section toggle setting.
Who can set a section as an Eligibility Section?
Only Process Admin members can mark a custom form section as an Eligibility Section when creating it.
Can I let an applicant continue even if they don’t meet eligibility criteria?
Yes. The Toggle can be set so the applicant is either completely stopped or allowed to move forward without meeting eligibility criteria.
Do I have to publish changes for applicants to see them?
Yes. Save Changes stores updates without making them visible to applicants, while Publish applies saved updates and makes them live on the form.
If I rename a section, will the Section ID change?
No. The Section ID auto-populates and will not update if the Section Title changes.
